Kosher Eggs

Almost all eggs are Kosher. Under Kosher dietary laws, neutral eggs are considered neither milk nor meat and may be eaten with either. Drops of blood from fertilized eggs, though, are prohibited and eggs found in slaughtered hens may not be cooked in milk dishes. Eggs found in slaughtered hens are unlikely to be available on the market today since, in most areas, there are few, if any, outlets for undressed hens. Due to consumer perceptions, eggs with blood spots – which are not related to fertilization – are also sometimes shunned.

Kosher-certified eggs are produced according to biblical laws governing the selection and preparation of foods. These eggs are produced by hens at egg farms which have been inspected by a rabbi and found to merit the OU designation.
