Each spring, eggs are part of meaningful moments and traditions across the country—from Easter to Passover and beyond. After all, you can’t have Easter without eggs. Through the Great American Egg Drive, America’s egg farmers are coming together in an effort led by the American Egg Board to help more families be part of those moments by donating eggs to communities nationwide.

As members of their local communities, egg farmers are proud to give back and share a food that plays an important role in so many spring celebrations—from Seder plates and egg dyeing traditions to the family-favorite recipes that bring people together.

At the same time, millions of families across the country face food insecurity. More than 47 million people in the United States, including 14.1 million children, lived in food-insecure households in 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This year, the Great American Egg Drive is expanded through a partnership with HATCH, a nonprofit that connects farms with food banks to deliver fresh protein to communities in need.

Eggs are one of the most in-demand foods at food banks because they are nature’s perfect protein. Just one egg provides 6 grams of high-quality protein and 13 essential nutrients, making eggs a versatile option families can use in a wide variety of meals.
