How to Decorate Eggs with Rice
  • 5 Ingredients

When do eggs become eggceptional? When they’re marbled, of course! Follow these steps and tips to make marbled eggs.

Ingredients and Directions

Directions

  1. PLACE about 1/8 – 1/4 cup of rice in the bags.

  2. DROP 10-15 drops of food coloring in bags of rice.

  3. ADD in a little vinegar but do not let the rice get too watery.

  4. SHAKE the bag gently to make sure the colored rice is evenly distributed around the egg.

  5. PLACE eggs on drying rack and let dry for 20-60 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Hard-boiled EGGS, in shell
  • Food coloring
  • White vinegar
  • 1 cup white rice
  • Sandwich bags

Tips

It’s very important to not add too much vinegar to the rice mixture when using this technique. Excess vinegar will cause the rice to clump and stick to the eggshell.

If you plan to eat your decorated eggs, make sure to use only food-safe decorating materials

To ensure food safety, eggs should be cooked until both the yolk and the white are firm. Consuming raw or undercooked eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially for those with certain medical conditions. For recipes that call for eggs that are raw or undercooked when the dish is served, use either pasteurized shell eggs that have been treated to destroy Salmonella, or use pasteurized egg products.
